Kelly Eagan takes a throw in

Jersey Sky Blue defender Kelly Eagan was honored by United Soccer Leagues yesterday with a selection to the W-League Team of the Week. Eagan was key to Sky Blue's defensive efforts this past weekend when the team posted back-to-back shutouts on the road in Virginia.
The Villanova University standout has become a force on the back line for Sky Blue in recent games. In the weekend matches, Eagan played the full 90 minutes in both games as Sky Blue boosted its Northeast Division playoff hopes with a 1-0 victory over the Northern Virginia Majestics and a 2-0 win over the Fredericksburg Lady Gunners.
Eagan was also key in Sky Blue's 1-0 victory over the New Jersey Wildcats on Tuesday to help her side to a third-straight shutout. Sky Blue has now allowed just two goals in its last six games while improving its record to 6-2-1.
Ottawa Fury forward Jodie Taylor was picked by USL for Player of the Week honors. Taylor came up big for the Fury, scoring two goals including the game winner in a revenge game against Toronto. Taylor buried her first goal in the 48th minute and scored the game winner in the 64th. With the win Ottawa avenged their only loss of the season while setting themselves up to make a run for the Northern Division title.
In a matchup of Northeast Division contenders on Saturday, the Long Island Rough Riders knocked in two goals past Boston goalkeeper Meghann Burke late in the game for a 2-0 victory. Sade Ayinde earned a Team of the Week nod for her involvement in both goals. The United States youth international and University of Maryland recruit assisted the opening goal by Casie Ludemann in the 81st minute and then sealed the victory with a goal of her own in the 84th minute as the Rough Riders dropped Boston, which lost for just the second time and first since falling 1-0 to Sky Blue on opening day.
Boston defender Danielle Kot was named to the Team of the Week after helping the Renegades rebound from the loss to the Rough Riders with a 2-0 win over the New York Magic the next day.
In the Atlantic Division, the Atlanta Silverbacks continued to roll with Team of the Week selections Allison Whitworth and Lyndsey Patterson leading the way. Patterson was the midfield catalyst for Atlanta with one goal and Whitworth claimed the shutout in a 3-0 win over Richmond. With that victory the Silverbacks have now outscored their opponents by an amazing 32-3 margin. Silverbacks striker Sarah Steinmann currently leads the W-League with 14 goals and 29 points.
Carolina Dynamo defender Camelyn Dillon scored the most dramatic goal of the weekend when she buried an extra time goal to level the score at 2-2 at home against the playoff-bound Charlotte Lady Eagles. That draw was just the second time all season that Charlotte dropped points in a match with an 8-1-1 mark compared to Carolina's 3-5-2 record.
