Sky Blue Handles Raging Rhinos

Erla Arnardóttir recorded a goal and an assist and Katie Griffin and Susanna Lehtinen also scored as Jersey Sky Blue posted a 3-0 victory over the Rochester Raging Rhinos in a W-League exhibition match at Ridge High School.
The victory was the second in two outings for Sky Blue, which earned a 4-0 win over the Western Mass Lady Pioneers in its season opener on May 12. Sky Blue controlled most of the action with a 21-7 advantage in shots. All three goals came in the first half for Sky Blue and Jillian Loyden and Erin Guthrie totalled three saves to split the shutout.
Sky Blue nearly got on the board just 1:15 into the game when a sharp flick by Katie Griffin off a cross from Lehtinen was foiled by Rochester keeper Joy McKenzie, who parried the effort into the post.
After a sluggish stretch, Griffin broke through in the 20th minute for a 1-0 Sky Blue lead. Arnardóttir chased down a long ball along the endline on the right side and lofted a serve to the far post for a wide-open Griffin to head in.
Arnardóttir added to the lead three minutes later off a corner kick from the right side. Gina DeMaio sent a low hard cross that Lauren Ebert deflected toward an unmarked Arnardóttir. The Iceland international calmly lined a 12-yard shot into the back of the net to double the lead.
Lehtinen capped the scoring in the 41st minute when she intercepted an outlet from McKenzie and then cranked a 30-yard shot off the keeper's hands and in.
Sky Blue didn't threaten too often in the second half. Substitute Kylee Rossi rolled a shot just wide right in the 75th minute before Arnardóttir missed twice in the final three minutes with Kristie Bowers making a falling save on the second attempt in the 89th minute.
Sky Blue returns to action on Saturday, June 2 when it travels to St. John's University for a Northeast Division match against the New York Magic at 4:30 p.m. Sky Blue returns home on Sunday, June 3 when the team hosts the Northern Virginia Majestics at 5 p.m. at Ridge High School.
