Dickenmann, Sky Blue Turn Up Offense

LUDLOW, MA (June 15, 2007) –

Jersey Sky Blue matched its offensive output from its previous three games Friday night with a five-goal outburst as the team posted a 5-0 victory over the Western Mass Lady Pioneers at Lusitano Stadium. With the victory, Sky Blue improved to 4-1 in its first W-League season.

The start of the game was delayed by almost an hour when a schedule discrepancy left the game without any referees and replacements had to be summoned. Sky Blue returns to action on Saturday night when it travels to Framingham, MA to face the Boston Renegades at 4 p.m. at Bowditch Stadium.

Sky Blue made three key changes in the starting lineup against the Lady Pioneers and all three moves worked out well. Lara Dickenmann and Erin Guthrie both made their first starts of the season while Nikki Krzysik - usually a defender - started in the center of the midfield.

Dickenmann had the biggest impact with the Switzerland international posting two goals and an assist in the first 26 minutes of the game. Guthrie recorded two saves to record her first shutout and the team's fourth while Krzysik was a solid force in the center all game long.

Sky Blue jumped out to an early lead with two goals in the first 6:26 of the game. Dickenmann and Susanna Lehtinen set up the first goal with a couple of great moves as Sky Blue broke the ice just 3:31 in on an easy finish by Katie Griffin. Lehtinen broke past a defender in the midfield before sending Dickenmann up the left side and the Swiss star beat a defender to the endline before driving a low cross to the far post for Griffin to tap in.

On the second goal, a nice long ball up the right side by Bonnie Young sent Dickenmann in and she beat three defenders off the dribble inside the Western Mass before rolling a shot inside the left post from close range,

In the 23rd minute, Griffin earned a penalty kick for Sky Blue when she was taken down inside the box but Lady Pioneers keeper Amanda Schwartz dove to save Krzysik's effort from the spot. Three minutes later, Dickenmann slotted a nice cross from Lehtinen for a 3-0 Sky Blue lead.

After the break, Sky Blue dropped the hammer with two goals in two minutes to close out the scoring. In the 50th minute, Tricia DiPaolo laid back a pass for Gina DeMaio to crack off the underside of the bar from the top of the box. Stacy Bishop scored the fifth goal in the 52nd minute when she slid home a pass off the head of Lauren Ebert after a Young free kick.
